Google Lens vs the old Google Images search

Google folded classic "search by image" into Google Lens. When you search with a picture today, Lens analyzes the objects in the image and returns visual matches, similar images and the pages that host them, along with shopping and text results where relevant.

The tool above hands your image straight to Lens so you skip the menu-hunting. Upload a file or paste an image URL and click Search on Google.

On desktop

On a computer, the fastest route is to paste an image URL or upload the file above. You can also go to Google Images, click the camera icon in the search bar, and upload or paste a link there.

On phone

In the Chrome or Google app you can touch and hold any image and choose Search image with Google Lens. To look up a photo from your camera roll, upload it with the tool above and tap Search on Google.

What Google is best at

Google shines at identifying products, plants, animals, landmarks and text inside images, and its huge index means it usually finds the most pages. For finding exact duplicates or the earliest copy of an image, pair it with TinEye.
